An article published in 1926, in “Billard”
magazine, tells us about professor Andrés Urzanki’s
speech, given in the traditional “Los
36 Billares” , about billard practices
and the activities in favor of its development in
our country, done for the Argentain Billard Association,
then recently born.
A crowd of amateurs of this sport, gave the welcome
to those good news with a warm and enthusiastic applause.
The writing goes on referring that after his words,
Urzanqui immediately started his own activity in the
accredited billard house, showing and teaching to
the concurrence, his knowledge in the subject, for
several hours, obtaining a great success, specially
among young men, anxious to learn billard, considered
a sport which peculiar characteristics let us appreciate
player’s personal skills, as well as his spirit.
But above all, the chronicle stands out the fact that
if the practice of billard left for ever the idea
of a sport for a reduced and exclusive circle, was
due to the impulse given by “Los 36
Billares”, from its very beginning,
offering daily “matches” with the best
“cracks” as its principal performers ,
and special meetings between champions from different
zones, all of it thanks to the excellent management
of this famous Academy, founded in 1894.
